How long should a hook be?
Short enough to say in about three seconds: roughly eight words at a typical Hindi pace. Long hooks are the most common reason a good idea loses viewers, because the question arrives after they've already swiped.
A hook must also be something the story pays off. A hook that promises more than the video delivers wins one view and costs the next.

Common mistakes
- ✕Starting with a greeting or channel intro before the hook.
- ✕Hooks that describe instead of intrigue: 'Aaj main ek kahani sunaunga.'
- ✕Clickbait the story never pays off.
- ✕Using the same pattern in every video. Rotate patterns and compare results.
Questions
What is a good hook for a YouTube Short?
+
One concrete detail that raises a question, said within the first three seconds, such as a contradiction, a strange object or an unfinished sentence, which the rest of the Short then pays off.
Which hook works best for horror Shorts?

Contradictions, broken rules and sound cues tend to suit horror, because they plant a wrong detail without explaining it.
