The shape of a comedy script
- ✦Relatable hook: a situation the viewer has lived.
- ✦Build expectation: let viewers think they know what's coming.
- ✦Escalate: each beat gets a little more absurd.
- ✦Punchline last, and nothing after it.
Punchline rules
Put the funniest word at the very end of the sentence. 'Sach bola… isliye thappad pada' beats 'Thappad pada kyunki sach bola'.
A small pause before the punch creates timing. A long one gives people time to scroll.
Jokes to avoid
Jokes that target caste, religion, bodies or vulnerable groups can break YouTube's policies and reduce your reach. Laughing at yourself and at shared situations is both the safest and the most relatable comedy.
